Praise for the Players

“Wouldn’t you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, ‘Get that son of a bitch off the field right now ... He is fired’.” – President of the United States of America

The recent statement of Donald Trump is unacceptable and does not showcase what the nation America stands for. In no way, should the men who chose to use their sport’s platform to take a stand against the violence within their community be reprimanded by their employers.  I do not know much about football or basketball, but I commend the players of both the National Football League and National Basketball Association who have taken a stand against the crude statements made by Donald Trump. They were tasteless, but yet completely on trend for statements that come from his rallies and twitter. But that's another story.

On the internet, Syd and the City has allowed me my own space to freely express my opinions and I stand with those who deem the words of the President unacceptable. The First Amendment has granted the men of these organizations the same right and it is appreciated that they are no longer turning a blind eye to the issues happening within the nation they call home. It is so much easier to single a person out and attack them, but when multiple people come together and take a stand, a change can easily follow.

I do not have much to say, considering this issue is so fresh, but I literally had to say something because I am an advocate for racial equality. I will personally be paying attention to this, on both the sports and the political perspective, in order to see how one of the most profitable industries proceeds. People have voices and it is important for us to realize the power we have when we use them.
