Food Find: Mesero

Main Meal Tacos or Enchiladas

On a random whim one workday last week, I decided togo on a date with myself at a restaurant that's not too far from my job. It's called Mesero and specializes in Mexican cuisine. Funny little side story: when I was a child, my dad would bring us to eat at a restaurant called Cuba Libre, which was in the same building, but it randomly closed one day and I've held a little grudge against the restaurant here now ever since.

Any who, I went in around 4 pm on a weekday and it was empty but the staff was pleasant. I was seated promptly on the patio, per my request, and was brought out water, chips, and a salsa trio. My fave was the yellow, which was pepper salsa, but the tomato salsa was good too. It had some heat it, but not as much as the avocado and habanero one. The chips that came out with it were thick and very good, which I really liked.

Mexican food makes me REALLY full, so I went with their Big “D” Dog. It’s a Kobe beef hotdog on a brioche bun with chili, cheddar cheese. Honestly, it was nothing special, but it did make me full from just eating half. It comes with fries, which were soooo addictive! I literally found myself aimlessly eating them while I paid attention to all the other stuff I was doing. They served them with ketchup and the meal was pretty much set. While it wasn't amazing, it was perfect for lunch.

The restaurant itself is very nice and I would love to come back, have a drink and actually enjoy some of the Mexican food. The menu had plenty of options and the prices were not bad. I don't know the portion sizes, but from my hotdog, I feel it would pretty fair. They have a lot of seating, with both upstairs and downstairs options inside and on the patio.

My waiter was lovely as well and allowed me to enjoy my alone time. Because I was the only customer, I believe he was checking on me through the window, but it was fine because he made sure I was taken care of. It would be interesting to see how attentive they are during busier times, but they appeared to be well staffed.

Would I like to come back? Yes. I would definitely make this a lunch spot if I can't decided what to eat or if I don't want to go far from work. I would also like to come back and have some Mexican food and a drink because margaritas are definitely my happy drink!
